The Survey Went Home Already
The School Experience Survey went home two weeks ago in your child’s folder. Return the survey as soon as possible to the office or to your teacher. You may choose to answer some but not all questions. Also note that some items on the survey are not applicable to our school (e.g. questions regarding a Parent Center). You can leave questions that don’t apply blank. We need every parent to return the survey by February 11, 2016.

API is replaced with SQII
For parents who had children in school more than 3 years ago, you may remember that California schools earned an annual API score. API was an acronym for Academic Performance Index; API was the accountability system in which a school was ranked with other school and was based on the results of the California Standards Test. Roscomare Road had one of the highest API in California. However, the API and California Standards Test (CST) are no longer used in California except in grade 5 Science. The API has been replaced with for School Quality Improvement Index (SQII).
SQII has two significant components in factoring a school’s ranking
The new state of California accountability system will have two categories for determining a school’s School Quality Improvement Index.
1. Sixty percent of the formula to determine a school’s SQII will be the results of the Smarter Balance Assessment administered to grade 3-5 students in May.
2. The other 40% is from a new category called Social and Emotional. The Social and Emotional category includes climate and parent engagement. This information will come in part from the School Experience Survey you complete.
We hope we can count on you to keep our school one of the top-ranked schools in Los Angeles.
